What are Local Learning Ecosystems?
A tree doesn’t grow in isolation, It needs sunlight, water and nutrients from the environment. Local Learning Ecosystems are the «soil, sunlight, and air» for human growth. They’re the interconnected web of environments where we constantly learn and evolve: home, school, community and digital.
Just as a rainforest is shaped by contextual factors like climate, soil, the presence of other organisms and all these interconnections, Local Learning Ecosystems are influenced by context resources, cultures, laws, policies, leaderships, organizations, and importantly: by human relationships.
Just as the connection of the roots across other trees and plants creates a more resilient forest, each element within the Local Learning ecosystem and its interconnection – schools, universities, libraries, museums, sport facilities, and so on – plays a vital role in supporting the growth and development of the individual and the collective.
Who we are?
An international hub for Local Learning Ecosystems research and practice, based in Blanquerna, URL, Barcelona, Spain.
What we do?
We conduct research aimed to better understand the emergence and impact of advanced Local Learning Ecosystems in students’ holistic and authentic learning, belonging, inclusion, collective wellbeing and equity.
We co-create research-based tools and frameworks that empower educational leaders from schools to government to design and weave Local Learning Ecosystems to improve students’ holistic and authentic learning, belonging, inclusion, collective wellbeing and equity.
